Technology, data, and a security robot: safeguarding the Mutua Madrid Open
A total of 335,000 people visited the Caja Mágica to watch Aryna Sabalenka, Casper Ruud, and Jack Draper in action. Meanwhile, Yellow Pro, an AI-powered robot, was on duty, keeping them safe.
Large crowds inevitably bring increased risks, demanding heightened security measures. An event of the scale of the Mutua Madrid Open 2025, welcoming hundreds of thousands of attendees over 14 consecutive days, presents a significant logistical and operational challenge that calls for a highly meticulous deployment.
In addition to the tournament’s own sporting and technical demands, the event required the presence of medical teams, national and local law enforcement, and private escorts for numerous VIPs. More than 330 security personnel were deployed during this record-breaking edition, which not only surpassed previous attendance figures but also had to contend with the nationwide blackout on April 28th and its knock-on effects.

To ensure that a tournament of this scale runs smoothly and without incident, a hybrid security model like the one used by Prosegur Security is essential. This system combines advanced technology, data analysis, and the strategic value of human expertise."Organising a tournament of this magnitude involves coordinating multiple aspects: logistics, customer service, security, technology and doing it all with absolute precision. That’s why we trust Prosegur Security," explains Gerard Tsobanian, CEO of the Mutua Madrid Open. "We need a partner that brings both professionalism and technological capability, and Prosegur delivers on both fronts."
The Mutua Madrid Open also marked the official debut of Yellow Pro, Prosegur Security’s new security robot. Equipped with high-definition 360º cameras, intelligent and thermal sensors—it can detect smoke and gases to identify potential fire hazards—and connected via 5G to smart control centres (iSOC), it represents a new era in surveillance. "Security guards no longer just observe: they interpret, anticipate and act, all while connected to a technology ecosystem designed to maximise operational efficiency," says José Gil, Managing Director for Spain and Portugal at Prosegur Security.
So, what exactly can Yellow Pro do? It can analyse hazardous objects using infrared, measure temperature, detect gases, carry out autonomous patrols across varied terrains and environments, climb stairs, and transport loads of up to 14 kilograms.

HYBRID SECURITY: PRESENT AND FUTURE
What is it about? It’s about combining human expertise with AI and data analysis through Intelligent Security Operations Centres (iSOCs) to truly make a difference. These centres enable real-time monitoring of activity on-site, allowing for rapid, proactive responses during large-scale events such as sporting competitions, festivals, or trade fairs—environments that are dynamic and constantly evolving.
Who provides it? One of the company’s business units, Prosegur Security, specialises in tailor-made security solutions for businesses and operates in 14 countries worldwide.
The key: the human factor
During the tournament, security personnel didn’t just manage access points or visible areas: they acted as connected nodes within a digital security ecosystem. Equipped with the POPS platform, they reported incidents, carried out technical checks, and maintained a constant flow of information with the iSOC. This enabled faster, more precise responses. Their presence extended from locker rooms to private suites, technical zones, VIP areas, and evacuation points.
The Mutua Madrid Open 2025 is a clear example of how security has evolved from an invisible service into a strategic asset."The experience of the players, the audience, and our partners also depends on everything running smoothly and discreetly. When well managed, security is almost invisible. That’s the level of excellence we aim for at the tournament, and that’s exactly what we’ve found in Prosegur," concludes Tsobanian.
