Madrid, 17 February 2021 - Prosegur and its subsidiary Prosegur Cash announce their commitment to 'The Climate Pledge'. The company is the first security group in the world to sign up to this initiative.

“In 2019, Amazon and Global Optimism cofounded ‘The Climate Pledge’, a commitment to achieve a target of net zero carbon by 2040, a decade ahead of the Paris Accord’s goal of 2050. A total of 53 organisations, including Prosegur and Prosegur Cash, have signed up to “The Climate Pledge” so far, sending an important signal that there is significant and rapidly growing demand for products and services that help to reduce CO2 emissions.

In signing up Prosegur provides further evidence of its commitment to sustainability, a cornerstone of the company's development strategy. To this end, Prosegur and Prosegur Cash will regularly measure and report greenhouse gas emissions, and implement decarbonisation strategies in line with the Paris Accord. Both companies are rolling out initiatives to improve efficiency, boost renewable energy use and reduce polluting materials. They have also undertaken to neutralise any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially-beneficial offsets to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions by 2040.

"At Prosegur we are not only committed to making the world a safer place, taking care of people and businesses, but also recognise the urgent action required to protect and revive our planet," said Christian Gut, CEO of Prosegur. "We are convinced that by signing up to 'The Climate Pledge' we will make significant progress towards achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040."

In this way, Prosegur reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that its various businesses operate within best environmental, social and good governance practices, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and positioning itself as a benchmark in its sector. Prosegur has already made progress towards achieving its goal of decarbonising its fleet. The company has hybridised and electrified its fleet of operational and commercial vehicles. In addition, Prosegur Cash now operates with the world's first 100% electric armoured lorries, a zero-emission vehicle. These initiatives are in addition to others already underway such as limiting the consumption of plastics and increasing recycling of plastics and oils.

A sustainable vision

In order to support the process of transformation towards a more sustainable society, Prosegur has incorporated the Sustainable Development Goals into its overall corporate strategy. Prosegur has also signed up to the United Nations Global Compact, an initiative that promotes the implementation of Ten Principles in the area of human, occupational and environmental rights, and the fight against corruption.

Both Prosegur and Prosegur Cash form part of the FTSE4Good index, a benchmark for socially responsible companies.
