In 1976, Prosegur was born with a clear focus: to professionalize security in a market that needed rigor, trust, and innovation. A year later, the company began its guarding business and logistics of valuables and cash transportation, but it did not take long to evolve toward new areas. In 1992, the creation of the Prosegur Alarms division marked a strategic turning point: electronic security became part of the Group’s DNA.
Today, in the context of its 50th anniversary, looking back at the evolution of Prosegur Alarms is not only revisiting a timeline. It is understanding how a company born in the B2B space was able to anticipate a growing need in homes and small businesses, integrate technology progressively, and turn, in 2019, into one of the sector’s most relevant strategic alliances: the joint venture with Telefonica.
International expansion: taking the residential model beyond Spain
By the mid-1990s, the Group’s international expansion also drove the growth of residential alarm solutions. Portugal and Argentina were among the first markets where this service began to be deployed, consolidating a replicable model that combined installation, monitoring, and coordinated response.
In 2003, the residential business gained momentum in Chile, and in 2007 the unit—under the Prosegur Activa brand—began operating as a specialized structure. This key stage made it possible to professionalize business processes, optimize technical management, and consolidate a network of alarm receiving centers that was becoming increasingly more sophisticated.
The model evolved from the simple installation of systems toward a comprehensive service proposal: advisory, technology, 24/7 monitoring, and immediate response capability.
From the traditional alarm monitoring center to connected security
The 2010s marked a profound transformation. Consumers began demanding more control, more information, and more immediacy. And technology made that possible.
In 2012, a new generation of alarms was launched, accompanied by a mobile app and a private customer portal. For the first time, users could interact with their security system in real time: arming, disarming, viewing event logs, or receiving notifications from anywhere.
In 2016, the company strengthened its focus on digital channels and e-commerce, while also rolling out video verification systems in various markets. This development not only improved the user experience but also raised operational standards: visually verifying an intrusion reduced false alarms and optimized coordination with law enforcement.
The joint venture with Telefónica: Movistar Prosegur Alarms
The natural evolution of the model led to the integration of complementary capabilities. The strategic alliance with Telefónica gave rise to Movistar Prosegur Alarms (MPA), combining Prosegur’s experience in security with the technological power and commercial reach of one of the largest telecommunications companies.
This joint venture represented a qualitative leap on several levels:

- A boost to the customer’s digital experience
- Greater capacity for innovation in the connected home ecosystem
- Reinforced commercial scale
The alarm concept evolved toward an end-to-end intelligent home solution. Sensors and advanced cameras, verification capabilities, intuitive applications, and complementary services began to form part of a broader proposition: protecting not only spaces, but also everyday peace of mind.
