Prosegur turnover exceeds €838 million in Q1 2012, a 30% increase
The Company, with a workforce of more than 150,000 worldwide, is one of Spain's largest companies in terms of headcount and job creation.
Prosegur's turnover in the first quarter of the year totalled €838 million, which implies a 30% increase on the same period in 2011.
EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) amounted to €75 million, a 14% increase. The Company's consolidated net profit in 1Q 2012 totalled €44 million, representing an increase of almost 3% compared with 2011.
During the first three months of 2012, Prosegur continued to consolidate its leadership as a company reference in the markets where it operates. The Company pursues a business strategy based on close proximity to the customer, excellence and quality in security services, coupled with a solid financial position, operating excellence and innovation in order to develop new solutions and services and to improve its processes.
By geographical area, sales in Europe-Asia totalled €363 million, almost 17% more than a year earlier. In Latin America, sales soared by 43% to €475 million. Related to Spain, Prosegur had a turnover of €238 million, owing to an excellent customer service and a specialised range of products and services adapted to the requirements of the current economic environment.
An integrated and specialised range of security services
The Company has three business units: Guarding, Cash in Transit and Technology.
In the first quarter of 2012, Prosegur's Guarding division posted turnover of €388 million, a 22% increase on the first quarter of 2011. By region, the business in Europe-Asia grew by 6% while in Latin America it soared by more than 56% to €164 million.
The Cash in Transit business reported turnover of €357 million in the first quarter of 2012, which represents an increase of 42% higher than in the same period one year previously. The Europe-Asia business rocketed by 77%, while in Latin America it grew by more than 33% to €268 million.
Lastly, Prosegur's Technology unit posted more than €93 million in revenue, a 23% increase compared to the first quarter of 2011. This area encompasses the development of integrated security and fire protection systems, as well as a broad range of products for residential customers and for small and medium-sized businesses. By geographical area, in Europe-Asia, the Company invoiced €50 million, almost 3% more than last year, while in Latin America, the Company recorded €43 million, a 59% year-on-year increase.
