Prosegur´s turnover reaches EUR 1,228 million in the first semester of 2010
Prosegur currently employs more than 100,000 people in the twelve countries where it operates.
During the first half of 2010, Prosegur's turnover reached €1,228 million, compared with more than €1,025 million for the same period of 2009, representing an increase of 19.8 percent. This increase is due to the strong organic growth of the Company, which has reached 6.6 percent, constant perimeters and exchange rates, which allows Prosegur to continue consolidating as a company in every market where it operates, with a clearly identified strategy -proximity to customers, excellence and quality in service coupled with a strong financial position-.
EBIT, or earnings before interest and tax, amounted to €127 million. Consolidated Net Profit of the Company in the first half of 2010 amounted to €69 million, representing an increase of 7 percent over the same period of 2009.
Involved in a continuous process of technological innovation for over 30 years, the Company maintains its investment policy in order to continue the search for operational excellence and continuous innovation. Prosegur offers a complete overview of Integral Security Solutions and operates in two major lines of business: Corporate Security and Residential Security.
Corporate Security
During the first half of 2010, the Corporative Security area obtained a turnover of €1,156 million, representing an increase of 19.9 % with respect to the same period of 2009.
By geographical area, the business in Europe has grown by 2.8 percent to reach the figure of €593 million, despite markets such as the Spanish one maintaining flat sales levels. For its part, Prosegur has experienced an increase of 45.2 percent to a record €563 million euro in Latin America.
Residential Security
The Residential Security area had revenues of €72 million, representing an increase of 17.5 percent over the same period last year. The number of connections during the first semester was 280,282 in the six countries where Prosegur operates in the residential business.
Prosegur, the third largest operator worldwide in the private security sector, is the leading Global Security Services company in Spain and other markets where it is operates such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, France, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Romania and Uruguay.
With a clear vocation for leadership and a combination of organic and inorganic growth, in 2009 Prosegur carried out eleven acquisitions whose contribution to sales amounted to €110 million. In terms of the geographic areas in which Prosegur operates, Latin America and Europe, the acquisitions made were: Norsergel, Setha and Centuria in Brazil, Orus in Perú, Punta Systems y Blindados SRL in Uruguay, Giasa in Argentina, and Ryes in México and Segmatic in Chile. In Europe Prosegur made two acquisitions in 2009, Valtis and Maison de la Securite. In the first half of 2010 the Company acquired Genper in the area of technology in Uruguay.
The evolution of Prosegur has also been reflected in its employer capacity. Similarly, in recent years Prosegur has been increasing its workforce, and in 2009 exceeded the figure of 100,000 employees in the countries where it operates. Prosegur´s average workforce figure in 2009 was increased by 7,772 employees with regards the previous year.
