Prosegur awards 82 “Talent Grants” to exceptional children of its employees in Singapore

Singapore, 10 December 2014 – Prosegur has awarded 82 talent grants to its employees’ children in Singapore this year as part of its global “Prosegur Talent Scholarships” programme. The number of grants presented has steadily increased each year from 41 in 2012, and 60 in 2013. Administered by the Prosegur Foundation, which is highly focused on education, this initiative seeks to provide support to the children of their employees through grants so they can further their studies and continue to develop their talent. It is part of Prosegur’s ongoing commitment to recognise employees and reward their children for exceptional academic performance.

The Assistant Secretary – General, Director Care and Share at the National Trade Union Congress, Mr Zainal Sapari, presented these awards to the students at a ceremony held today. This year’s recipients comprised 33 primary school students, 27 secondary school students, 12 pre-university students as well as 10 university students. The grants are allotted with consideration of the academic results of the applicants.

In Mr Sapari’s address to the students and their parents, he spoke about how bursaries such as this had helped to support him and his family through his education. As a father of six children himself, he emphasised the importance of education for children and the role that these talent grants played in recognising these students’ efforts. In his closing remarks, Mr Sapari encouraged students to “spend the bursary responsibly and make the most of this opportunity”.

Since Prosegur first awarded these scholarships in Singapore four years ago, more than 345 local students have benefitted from this programme. The grants supplement annual tuition fees of every student, and recipients also receive additional accessories to support their studies including school backpacks.

Mr Óscar Esteban, Asia Region Business Director of Prosegur said, “We have a strong ongoing commitment to our employees and believe that scholarship initiatives such as this play an important role within our organisation as well as the wider community. Our aim is to create long-term, sustainable value not only for our clients but for our employees as well. The assistance we have provided to our employees with their children’s education has been extremely well received and we are proud of what the Prosegur Talent Scholarships programme has achieved in Singapore over the last few years. We are glad to recognise and reward the efforts of these exceptional student recipients and their parents.”

Mr Razali Bin Pariman, father of five and a senior night patrol officer with Prosegur was extremely proud of his three children who received grants this year. “This is such an excellent initiative by Prosegur and provides great encouragement to myself and my family. I have been in the security industry for a long time and this is the only company I know of with such a programme. It really makes employees feel that they are taken care of, and motivates my children to do well each year.”

Ms Sohbee Seen, an employee with Prosegur for over 13 years attended the ceremony today with her three sons aged 12, 14 and 16. All three of her children received grants this year, and has received grants over past four years since this Programme commenced. “The grants are definitely useful and my children always do their best. These awards especially help those with low incomes manage rising school expenses.”

Prosegur, which operates in Singapore under the Prosec and Evtec brands at the present, has over 1,800 employees in Singapore and is the only company in the security market with such an initiative in place to support the education of the children of its employees.

The “Prosegur Talent Scholarships” grant programme is implemented in countries where Prosegur is present, such as Singapore, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal and Uruguay.
