Prosegur Research analyzes the impact of disruptive events in its mid-year review, redefining the outlook for 2023

Madrid, September 12, 2023. – Set against a fast-changing technological backdrop and disruptive events, Prosegur Research has presented an in-depth review of today's society in its updated 'A Twist on the World in 2023'. This study reflects a reassessment of the trends identified at the beginning of the year, shaped by disruptive events that have redefined the global reality in recent months. "At a time of volatility and constant change, it is essential for us to adapt our perspectives to better understand the world around us," says José María Blanco, Director of Prosegur Research.

The report's findings highlight the impact of rapid technological development, as generative artificial intelligence, the metaverse and quantum computing play an ever-bigger role in more areas of business. At the same time, health and sustainability are converging in a focus on the individual and the well-being of the ecosystem.

The five redefined keys that will determine the future are:

Diffused power: volatility, geopolitical rivalries, misinformation, reconfiguration of supply chains and weaker institutions are factors that have created a scenario where power is constantly being reconfigured.

Stakeholder economy: pandemics and new international conflicts are atomizing collectives and driving a search for self-sufficiency that are redefining markets and economic sectors.

Individual and collective empowerment: empowerment is placing new demands on political and business actors, driving citizen participation and generating changes in the public sphere.

Technological convergence: transformations in Big Tech, the rise of AI and new cybercrime challenges are shaping innovation and development globally.

Environment, Sustainability and Health: the lines between these terms are blurring, as sustainability cannot be understood without putting health and people front and center.

The report stresses the urgent need to address these trends from a structural and holistic perspective. To this end, it also highlights systemic risks that impact the global system, among them the evolution of control over land, sea and air; demography as a reconfiguring force of the future and the erosion of social cohesion.

In times of uncertainty and fast-paced developments, the ability to anticipate trends and adapt to changing realities is essential. Jose María Blanco explains how Prosegur Research continues to offer a critical and constructive lens for understanding the world around us.
