Prosegur and Prosegur Cash support a REDD+ project protecting more than 724,000 hectares of the Peruvian Amazon

Madrid, 25 August 2026.- Prosegur, the Spanish leader in the private security sector, and Prosegur Cash, the business specialising in cash-in-transit and comprehensive cash cycle management services, have selected the Madre de Dios REDD+ Project in Peru for their 2026 annual CO₂ emissions offsetting plan.

The project is being implemented in the Madre de Dios region in south-eastern Peru, where Brazil nut concessions face increasing pressure from agricultural expansion, illegal mining and unsustainable land use practices. In this context, the initiative protects more than 724,000 hectares of tropical rainforest.

From a climate perspective, the project helps prevent the emission of approximately 2.09 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per year by avoiding deforestation and the degradation of forest ecosystems. This places the initiative among the highest-impact projects within the international portfolio of nature-based solutions.

The programme combines advanced technology and forest management practices, including satellite monitoring systems, control patrols and early warning mechanisms that help detect illegal activities such as unauthorised logging. These tools are integrated with sustainable management practices aimed at ensuring the long-term conservation of the ecosystem.

From a social perspective, the project has a direct impact on local communities linked to forestry activities. A total of 793 families are improving their living conditions and income through sustainable forest management and the programmes associated with the project. The initiative has also created direct employment opportunities, contributing to the region’s economic development in an area of significant ecological and social value. In this regard, the Madre de Dios REDD+ Project also supports the preservation of biodiversity and strengthens the climate resilience of the Peruvian Amazon, one of the most species-rich regions on the planet and a key area for global climate regulation.

Juan Ignacio de Guzmán, Global Head of Institutional Relations and Sustainability at Prosegur, stated: “Through this initiative, Prosegur and Prosegur Cash are strengthening an emissions offsetting model based on projects with significant environmental and social impact, consolidating a track record that since 2021 has included projects in India, Brazil, Chile and Colombia, always with a focus on emissions reduction and sustainable development in local communities.”

The emissions offsetting plan implemented by Prosegur and Prosegur Cash forms part of the companies’ global sustainability strategy and long-term roadmap, aimed at reducing, offsetting and responsibly managing the carbon footprint generated across all their operations.
