Committed to the future
In 2015, 193 countries signed the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This agenda cites businesses as key players for the first time and equates their contributions to sustainable development to those made by governments and civil society. At Prosegur, we have integrated the Agenda into our strategy, and we support the process of transformation towards a sustainable global society. We contribute indirectly to the vast majority of the Sustainable Development Goals and our corporate vision focuses on seven Goals specifically linked to our business lines.
Prosegur and the SDGs
Thanks to increased awareness among our employees and Prosegur's efforts in connection with Health and Safety, the number of fatal victims fell by 43 % in 2019.
Our Occupational Health and Safety Committees regularly and periodically review actions aimed at occupational risk prevention. Furthermore, we have a new Global Communication Protocol for serious and fatal accidents which applies to all businesses and countries. Prosegur Cash’s Global Occupational Health and Safety Committee, chaired by the Executive Director, meets on a quarterly basis.
In 2019, occupational health and safety training hours provided increased by 8 % compared to the previous year.
In addition, and as a result of the exceptional situation generated by COVID-19, we have implemented a number of initiatives aimed at protecting the health and safety of our employees. Notable among these have been been prioritising working from home, refurbishing headquarters and branches to guarantee safety, and strengthening communication with all our professionals.
Prosegur, via its Corporate University, offers a space in which professionals can pool their knowledge, experience the company’s values, develop their talent and explore specialised training through a common culture. Through this online platform we provide a differential and heterogeneous catalogue of courses as part of our professional development plans for employees. We highlight the modules concerning Occupational Risk Prevention for operating personnel included in the introductory schemes and the yearly refresher training.
In 2019, our professionals received a total of 1.5 million training hours, implying an average of 9.3 hours of training per employee.
We believe in education as a driver of development, which is why we foster the Becas Talento (Talent scholarships) scheme. This initiative rewards company employees for academic excellence and hard work. Since 2007, the Becas Talento scheme has contributed to the development and training of more than 13,700 students from 14 countries.
Moreover, the Prosegur Foundation runs the “Piecitos Colorados” Development Cooperation Programme, to help renew teaching tools and materials, facilitating access to new technologies at schools in vulnerable communities in seven Ibero-American countries. Around 6,000 pupils benefited from the Piecitos Colorados programme in 2019.
At Prosegur we contribute to the economic fabric of the markets in which we operate, and we establish a working environment that respects and nurtures workers’ development. Accordingly, more than 67 % of the group's income is earmarked for salaries and employee benefits. Our remuneration policy is aimed at attracting and retaining the very best professionals in the market, as well as avoiding any discrimination based on gender, race, religion or age.
With a global workforce of more 160,000, our willingness to talk with trade unions is constant and paramount. Consequently, we hold periodic meetings with all legitimate representatives of workers. Collective bargaining agreements signed by Prosegur cover more than 78 % of our entire workforce.
We also boost the integration of disabled people in the labour market, offering them a more stable future through employment. In 2019, there were 955 disabled people on the Prosegur workforce.
In 2020, as a result of our commitment to innovation, we created Tech Studios with a view to developing disruptive projects in spheres such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science and Electronic Security Systems (ESS).
We have also launched an ambitious internal training plan, called Innovation Deep Dive, to offer employees specialist training in advanced technologies (IoT, Data Science, AI, Blockchain, Mixed Reality and Robotics) and innovative management processes (Management 3.0, Design Thinking and Agile Methodology).
In 2019, we invested more than 20 million euros globally in projects certified as innovative.
Prosegur implements various measures to mitigate the potential impact of our activity on the environment. Notable initiatives include the start of transformation of our armoured vehicle fleet towards models with hybrid technology, the acquisition of light vehicles and the recycling of uniforms, tyres and alarm devices.
Prosegur is currently working on the renewal of the armoured and light fleet. Twelve hybrid (diesel and electric) armoured vehicles, which produce lower greenhouse gas emissions, were acquired in Spain.
Our activity unquestionably contributes value in the quest to attain spaces that guarantee the free development of the societies where we operate. Hence, our aim is to make the world a safer place.
All the employees at Prosegur, regardless of their rank, are committed to conducting themselves in an ethical manner and in strict compliance with regulatory requirements in discharging their duties. This commitment is enshrined in shared principles and standards that affect their relationships with the company’s stakeholders.
We have a Code of Ethics and Conduct that sets the standards for behaviour and proper practices for all professionals at Prosegur, especially in matters such as compliance with the law, respect for human rights and equality, and respect among employees.
Our Corporate Compliance Programme establishes control measures designed to attenuate or remove the risk of non-compliance with regulations in day-to-day operations.
We support the United Nations Global Compact, an international initiative that fosters the implementation of ten guiding principles in connection with human rights, employment conditions, the environment and combating corruption. By means of its Foundation, Prosegur also promotes the creation of efficient partnerships with entities from the Third Sector in order to attain synergies that generate an enhanced social impact.
